CRISTINA BECHTLER, DANIEL BAUMANN, BICE CURIGER, HANS ULRICH OBRIST AND PHILIP URSPRUNG: CURATORS INTRODUCTION

About the talk

During the Corona pandemic, founder Cristina Bechtler and the curatorial team of E.A.T. welcomed the audience to the 2021 edition of the forum, which took form in a 12 hour screening on the theme of “Longue Durée.”

The theme of “Longue Durée” inspired the concept of a monumentally long screening. As French historian Fernand Braudel put it, our perception of time has slowed down due to the current measures of demarcation. In this context, it seems particularly appropriate to devote an unusual amount of time and intellectual effort to shifting our way of thinking from today’s usual short-termism to a longer-term perspective, whether in time or in space.

“Speaking of longue durée: I love to think of our attempt to slow culture TV or if you will cultural slow TV. TV means tele-vision: a communication to the distance. Historically TV has brought to many areas and to many people also a broadening of horizons. Slow TV is when you stay on a topic longer, see what comes, let yourself be surprised together.”
