CYRILL GUTSCH: THE AIR WE BREATHE

About the talk

In a video message, Cyrill Gutsch speaks about the work of the environmental organization Parley for the Oceans, which he founded in 2012 and which works to protect the oceans. His message is followed by a video of the large-scale installation “Underwater Pavilions” (2016), which the American artist Doug Aitken developed in cooperation with Parley for the Oceans and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles. There are further plans to establish a special Parley Art Foundation.

“There are two forms of silence to me. One is this happy moment of mindfulness, where you melt into your environment and notice everything. But then silence has this other side, where it is a witness of death.”
