MOHOMODOU HOUSSOUABA: WHEN OTHERS THINK OF YOUR LANGUAGE AS A THING OF THE PAST

About the talk

For the Malian linguist Mohomodou Houssouaba languages are not a thing of the past. Realizing that his native language Songhay and its culture would be forgotten without access to the digital world, he is developing basic digital tools such as an online dictionary, a translation application, and a search engine to save his mother tongue.

“Why do these people think of Songhay as a dead language? The nuance being they consider it a thing of the past, not the present.”
