Heinz Mack (b. 1931) is a German artist. Together with Otto Piene he founded the ZERO movement in 1957. He exhibited works at documenta in 1964 and 1977 and he represented Germany at the 1970 Venice Biennale. He is best known for his contributions to op art, light art and kinetic art. Mack studied with Piene at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf before collaborating with him to found ZERO in 1957. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Calderara Foundation Collection in Milan, among others. He currently lives and works between Mönchengladbach, Germany and Ibiza, Spain.
