Nikolaus Hirsch

Nikolaus Hirsch (b. 1964) is an architect, curator, and educator. He is the Artistic Director of CIVA in Brussels, and previously was the director of Städelschule and Portikus in Frankfurt. He taught at the Architectural Association and Columbia University. His architectural work includes the Dresden Synagogue, Hinzert Document Center, Cybermohalla Hub in Delhi, Unitednationsplaza in Berlin (with Anton Vidokle) and 'Do We Dream Under The Same Sky' (with Rirkrit Tiravanija) at Art Basel and LUMA in Arles. His work was exhibited at Manifesta 7, Chicago Architecture Biennale and ZKM Karlsruhe. Hirsch curated 'Folly' at the Gwangju Biennale, 'Wohnungsfrage / Housing Question' at the HKW Berlin, the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2021, and most recently, together with Beatriz Colomina, 'Sick Architecture' at CIVA. He is the author of the books 'On Boundaries' and 'Cybermohalla Hub', co-editor of the Critical Spatial Practice series at Sternberg Press and co-founder of e-flux architecture.
