2025: E.A.T. X ST. MORITZ

At the satellite event held at Scala in St. Moritz, participants continued to explore the theme of 'Form & Impact', examining how art shapes meaningful engagement and societal impact.

This session opened with Hans Ulrich Obrist (E.A.T. curator) and artist Uman, whose richly textured work channels her experiences across cultures — from Somalia to Kenya, Denmark, and the U.S. — and combines memory with vibrant, layered compositions. Uman's paintings, informed by East African landscapes and traditional calligraphy, reveal a fluid interplay of abstraction and figuration that reflects both physical and spiritual journeys.

Furthermore, in a conversation exploring the connections between art, energy, and sustainability, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Maja Hoffmann (Founder & President of LUMA Foundation) elaborated on the LUMA Foundation’s 'Elevation 1049: Energies', and its links to the LUMA programme in Arles and the Swiss Institute New York. This was followed by conversations between Maja Hoffmann, Stefanie Hessler (Director of Swiss Institute New York and curator of Elevation 1049: Energies), Vassilis Oikonomopoulos (Artistic Director of LUMA Arles), Theaster Gates (artist), and Nina Canell (artist).

The session concluded with a conversation between Cristina Bechtler (E.A.T. founder) and Hans Ulrich Obrist about his book, 'Ein Leben In Progress'.
