Barbara Stauffacher Solomon

Barbara “Bobbie” Stauffacher Solomon (b. 1928) is an American artist, graphic designer, and landscape architect based in San Francisco. She was trained as a dancer and studied painting and sculpture at San Francisco Art Institute. In 1956, Stauffacher Solomon moved to Switzerland to study graphic design at the Schule für Gestaltung in Basel; later, she graduated in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1962, she founded a graphic design office in San Francisco. Stauffacher Solomon is best known for her large scale interior Supergraphics. Her style, a combination of Swiss Modernism and West Coast Pop, was groundbreaking for the development of graphic design.
