David Claerbout

David Claerbout (b. 1969) is a Belgian video artist based in Antwerp and Berlin. He studied at the Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp. Numerous institutions have hosted solo presentations of his work, including Kunstverein Hannover (2002), Centre Pompidou in Paris (2007), Kunst Museum Winterthur (2020), and Garage Museum in Moscow (2021). His artistic practice includes photography, film, video, sound, digital media, and drawing; recurring motifs are “time” and “waiting”. On the occasion of the 2020 E.A.T., his animated film “The Pure Necessity” (2016) was shown at the chapel San Bastiaun in Zuoz.
