Elisabeth Bronfen

Elisabeth Bronfen (b. 1958) is an American-Swiss author, cultural critic, curator, and lecturer of German origin. She studied German and English Studies as well as Comparative Literature at Radcliffe College and Harvard University. In 1986, she was awarded a doctorate for her dissertation on Dorothy Richardson‘s Pilgrimage novel sequence. She taught at colleges and universities in Munich, Konstanz, Copenhagen, Aarhus, Lisbon, Berkeley, and Paris. Since 2001, Bronfen was Professor for English and American Literature at University of Zurich. Reputed for her expertise in 19th and 20th century literature, she also writes articles in the area of gender studies, psychoanalyzis, film, cultural theory, and visual culture.
