PARTTIME AMATEUR TOURIST is one of Jan De Vylder's alter egos. This means that the other half of his existence is PARTTIME PROFESSIONAL TRAVELLER. Jan De Vylder is an architect, but also a non-architect. And that says it all, although not everything can be said. Today, he is both an “architect” in practice architects jan de vylder inge vinck (Ghent, BE) and an “also-architect” with the chair SCHARE of JDV on ARCHITECTURE AN(D) ATTITUDE (ETH Zurich, CH) and the summer HOTEL IN:DEPENDANCE SCHOOL (Furkapass, CH 2022-2024), he remains “non-architect” of ZONDAG SCHILDER MAGAZINE (Posture editions n°59). The practice “architects jan de vylder inge vinck / A JDVIV” is an initiative of Inge Vinck and Jan De Vylder and is not only a recent practice with projects such as the group housing VOS BLOEI BOS – Ghent, BE, 2027 ongoing – or the €125,000 house LIEVE BLOEMEN LUS – Lievegem, BE, 2022-2025 – or the urban, landscape and architectural transformation of the 66,000 m² PALAIS DES EXPOSITION – Charleroi, BE, 2015-2024, in collaboration with AgwA – but also earlier projects such as LES BALLETS C DE LA B & LOD (2005-2010), ROT-ELLEN-BERG house (2005-2010) and MALPERTUUS veterinary practice (2007-2010). And so much more, already or soon, as well as so much that is no longer. Practices and recognitions – including the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale 2018 – and exhibitions and books and schools.
