Simone Fattal

Simone Fattal (b. 1942) is a Syrian-American artist and editor. She grew up in Lebanon und studied Philosophy in Paris. In 1969, Fattal returned to Beirut to become a painter. Due to the civil war, she moved to California in 1980, where she founded the publishing house Post-Apollo Press. Since the 1980s, numerous institutions have hosted solo shows for her, including MoMA PS1 in New York City (2019). Fattal’s work, which spans painting, sculpture, film, collage, and books, is known for exploring the impact of displacement as well as the politics of archeology and excavation.
