Thomas Hirschhorn

Thomas Hirschhorn (b. 1957) is a Swiss installation artist based in Paris. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich. Since the mid-1990s, his large-scale installations have been shown at biennials and exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale in 1999 and 2015, Documenta 11 in Kassel in 2002, the 26th São Paulo Biennale in 2006, and Manifesta 10 in St. Petersburg in 2014. Hirschhorn has received numerous awards, including the Prix Meret Oppenheim in 2018. His site-specific, multimedia installations on controversial social issues are addressed to a non-exclusive audience.
