SUSAN HEFUNA: ALL ONE

About the talk

Susan Hefuna and Hans Ulrich Obrist discussed her transnational practice, shaped by her Egyptian-German heritage. Hefuna shared how navigating different cultures led her to develop a unique visual language integrating abstract forms, public space, and participatory projects. Key projects included 'Speaker’s Corner', which linked Cairo and London through interactive installations, and 'Together in Manchester', where she collaborated with refugees to translate personal narratives into movement. A highlight of the talk was Hefuna’s edible artwork — walnut tarts printed with her drawings — connecting her practice to migration histories and the transformation of form through experience. The conversation concluded with anticipation for her upcoming exhibition in Chur.

“I grew up between two worlds, but I was always the same person. Only the meanings around me changed.”
