MARIANNA SIMNETT: BIRDS SCREAM AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS IN HORRIFIED HELLISH RAGE

About the talk

Is silence a punishment or a weapon? In a live performance, Marianna Simnett approaches this complex question through texts, music, and sound footage. She makes a reference to the silent figure of the “Little Mermaid” from the fairy tale of the same name (1837) by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. Another motif is the singing of birds, which remains incomprehensible to humans.

“Some stories can only be told through silence.”
