Claudia Comte reflects on how the surroundings of her hometown Grancy in the Swiss canton of Vaud influences her artistic practice. Many aspects of her work – references to cartoons, performance, working outdoors, an interest in organic forms – have their roots in Comte’s childhood. Her growing up with cartoons and video games, the landscape of her homeland, local festivals and traditions continue to shape her work today. Comte often works in close proximity to her childhood home, a chalet, where her woodwork is created with a chainsaw.
“The strange mix of living in a sheltered environment, surrounded by nature, and at the same time watching things, which were way beyond my age category, only fueled my imagination.”
— Claudia Comte
