RACHEL ROSE AND HANS ULRICH OBRIST: IN CONVERSATION

About the talk

In conversation with E.A.T. curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, artist Rachel Rose talks about her artistic practice. Rose came to video installation through painting. For her films, which are only a few minutes long, she often needs a year in which she carefully edits her material. Sound and space also play an important role in the staging of the videos. By showing scenes from three works – 'Palisades in Palisades' (2014), 'A Minute Ago' (2014), and 'Everything and More' (2015) – Rose demonstrates her approach to different themes such as the historicity of places, the tasks of architecture, and the experience of weightlessness.

“As you move through time over many generations or many different kinds of histories, things are actually always connected — there is not a great divide. So how we express that: maybe it would be useful to connect those fragments together without a great jump, keeping everything within full focus.”
