RAVIT HELLED: THE PLANET JUPITER

About the talk

Ravit Helled approaches the subject of gravity through her scientific work as an astrophysicist. She first explains the structure of our solar system and then turns her attention to the planet Jupiter, which, like Saturn, belongs to the gas giants. Jupiter, whose mass exceeds that of the Earth by about 300 times, has a strong gravitational field. The NASA Juno mission, which sent a spacecraft to explore Jupiter in 2011, is providing scientific insights into the inside of the gas giant. It has also produced images of the planet’s surface, showing storms and atmospheric turbulences. The processing of these photographs by amateurs has resulted in images that are resembling modernist artworks in their colorfulness and expressiveness.

“JunoCam images are where science meets art and NASA meets the public.”
