Editor Elena Foster puts the life and work of artist Barbara Stauffacher Solomon into perspective and recalls the making of the public wall-sculpture “Welcome”, installed in St. Moritz. In a video conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Stauffacher calls hope “bullshit”, remembers the beginnings of her “Supergraphics,” and tells us about her ongoing commitment for art in public spaces.
“Let me say one thing about hope. I don’t know if you realize that, in America, saying hope is really like saying bullshit these days. It’s not a very good subject for any American to talk about.”
